Thinking closely to Lucy after hearing and seeing her work, I researched into different approaches of displaying stories and reasons behind this presentation. I came accross a lady named Susan Stockwell, she has created this piece of art plainly called 'Bed Book'. From a distance it looks soft and delicate, almost pretty, but as i read on it’s actually meant to represent the massive intellectual effort that Nightingale (who was bed-ridden for most of her post Crimea War life) put into her crusade to reform modern nursing. It’s edged with pages from her Notes on Nursing and Cecil Woodham Smith’s biography, but in a twist inside pages are taken from old Mills and Boon doctor and nurse romances.
This has majorly influenced me into looking more deeply into a space that is presented depending on its meaning, and what may look soft and enticing, may mean completely the opposite, I like the contrast between image and meaning here.
